A Lusaka Magistrates Court has sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour a Police Criminal Investigations Officer (CIO) of Matero Police Station on conviction of corrupt practices by public officer.
Lusaka Magistrate, Mwaka Mikalile last Friday convicted the officer, Hannock Mfula of one count of corrupt practices by public officer, contrary to section 29(1) of the Ant-Corruption Commission Act No. 42 of 1996 before sentencing him to two years imprisonment.
ACC Public Relations Manager, Timothy Moono in a press release made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today said Mfula was arrested by the ACC some time last year for receiving a K700, 000 bribe from a named woman as an inducement for him to extend her husband’s police bond.
Mfula’s sentence is with effect from August 7, 2009.
