New Revolution Party president Cosmo Mumba has advised the United Party for National Development (UPND) and the Patriotic Front (PF) to concentrate on consolidating the pact as opposed to wasting time on the impeachment of President Rupiah Banda.
Dr. Mumba said the two opposition party leaders, Hakainde Hichilema, Michael Sata and their followers, should look at ways of unifying members of the two parties ahead of the 2011 general elections.
He told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that the impeachment motion the pact wants to table in parliament is a non-starter as they are no grounds for such a move.
Dr. Mumba said there is nothing wrong that President Banda has done to warrant such drastic actions.
He said the impeachment of President Banda would be at great cost to the nation as the move has potential to destabilize the country.
He also observed that the PF/UPND pact would not succeed as it lacks the required numbers to successfully push through an impeachment motion.
Dr. Mumba said the impeachment efforts have further been crippled by some PF MPs that have openly declared that they would not support the impeachment motion.
