The Zambia Daily Mail board fired Mukwita this afternoon (Saturday) for gross misconduct and bringing the name of the institution into disrepute.

A government official who declined to be named said the board has been very unhappy with the way Mukwita has been running the institution like a personal to holder.

” He has used the paper to settle personal scores. Just you the Watchdog advised his friend Emmanuel Mwamba to take it easy, he has not, ” the source said.

The board and Daily Mail workers have been unhappy that Mukwita has been attracting law suits almost every week to the Daily Mail because of his excitement.

Mr. Bryson Mumba the company’s director of Finance will act as Managing Director.

The Watchdog understands that Mukwita is also implicated in some financial scandals. He has bought a luxurious vehicle using company money beyond his entitlements. He has also constructed a house in Roma area worthy billions of kwacha and not commensurate with his pay.

Two days ago, former Defense Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) sued the Zambia Daily Anthony Mukwita together with the Zambia Daily Mail

According to court documents obtained by the Zambian Watchdog, Mr. Mwamba through his lawyers Makebi Zulu Advocates sued the Anthony Mukwita as First Respondent and is demanding K1000,000 (One million) and Daily Mail as second respondent also demanding the same amount

Mr. Mwamba’s suing of the two parties follows Zambia Daily Mail’s publication of defamatory remarks by Anthony Mukwita attacking GBM for buying his wife a US$200,000 Range Rover as a Valentine present. Mr. Mukwita in the editorial said the Range Rover was a Toy and that it was bought from pScreen Shot 2014-02-22 at 13.18.13roceeds of crime. See court documents

This means that Mukwita will now have to defend the course case alone since he is no longer eligible to use Daily Mail Lawyers.

As first defendant (main ‘accused”), there is simply no way of getting out.
