Debates will only be held and covered if I am participating-Lungu

Patriotic Front (PF) president Edgar Lungu has boasted that presidential debates can only be held and covered if he is present.
Lungu claimed that he was the only formidable candidate for the January 20th presidential elections adding that it was clear that he was a factor in the ongoing political campaigns.
He said some politicians can’t do without him and have made it a point to mention his name each time they campaign.
Lungu further said even media coverage can only be assured if he is mentioned by the opposition in their messages.
‘We want to debate but I have to be there to give it meaning because I am a factor so if you are campaigning and you don’t mention Lungu you will not be covered so just mention Lungu and you will be covered,’ said Lungu while laughing.
Last week’s presidential debate failed to take place after ZNBC was forced to pull out from covering the event by the PF because their candidate Edgar Lungu was not present despite having confirmed that he would participate in the debate.
During the run-up to the 2011 elections that ushered the PF to power, their candidate late President Michael Sata avoided participating in almost all the debates that featured presidential candidates.
