DEC arrests girls over cocaine

The Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested eight people in Lusaka’s Northmead area for trafficking in 26 sachets of pure cocaine weighing 2.17 grams.

Among those arrested is a 15 year old grade twelve pupil of Kabulonga Girls and two 19-year old female student s of National Institute for Public Administration (NIPA) in Lusaka.

The eight were arrested Tuesday night from house number 36 Lubambe road in Northmead when officers conducted an operation and found the Narcotic drugs hidden in one of the rooms, DEC spokesperson John Nyawali has revealed.

Others arrested include businessmen and women who were found in the same house at the time of the operation.

According to Nyawali, all  the suspects are detained in Police custody and will appear in the Lusaka Magistrate court soon.

Nyawali appealed to families and authorities in institutions of learning to work closely with the DEC to help curtail what he called the increasing problem of drug trafficking and drug abuse among the teenagers and the youths.
