DEC arrests more on cannabis

The Drug Enforcement Commission has seized 5.7 tonnes of cannabis and 66 people arrested countrywide for cultivating and trafficking in various quantities of the psychotropic substance.
Among those arrested are five peasant farmers of Solwezi district in North Western province for cultivating 3.4 tonnes of cannabis.
Others are six peasant farmers of Mongu in Western province for trafficking in 1.4 tonnes of dried cannabis.
This is the biggest single seizure of the dried psychotropic substance so far this year.
Western province has so far accounted for more than 80% of the total cannabis seized in the last four months.
The Commission would like to appeal to peasant farmers living in border areas particularly those of Southern and Western Provinces to concentrate on cultivating legal cash crops in order to enhance food security.
Meanwhile, an 18 year old juvenile of Bauleni compound in Lusaka has been arrested for trafficking in 12 sachets of an internationally controlled amphetamine.
Emmanuel mwansa was arrested together with Alex Mukupa 22, when they attempted to sale the drugs.
