Declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation still in constitution-Shikapwasha

Government has described as shameful, Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata’s statement that the government has excluded the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation in the preamble of the constitution .

Chief Government Spokesperson, Ronnie Shikapwasha says the allegations by Mr Sata are blatant falsehoods.

He was speaking to ZNBC news in Lusaka Tuesday.

Lieutenant General Shikapwasha, who is also Information Minister said contrary to Mr Sata’s false accusations, the constitution of Zambia still maintains the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation.

He said the preamble in the amended constitution also upholds the right of every person to enjoy their freedom of conscience or religion.

He said the constitution as amended by article three reads ” we the people of Zambia, acknowledge the supremacy of God Almighty, declare the Republic a Christian nation while upholding the right of every person to enjoy that person’s freedom of conscience o
religion”.
