Declare water shortage an emergency-UPND

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has charged that the water problem in Wusakile and many other townships should be declared an emergency.
UPND vice president for politics Dr Canisius Banda said it was clear that the Patriotic Front (PF) had failed to deliver and should allow other partners to come on board.
“The water situation has reached a critical stage and I wonder why we have not even declared it an emergency,” Dr Banda said.
He noted that the Patriotic Front had heavily politicised the water problem in Wusakile during last year’s by-election when they warned people not to vote for opposition civic leaders as they had no capacity to deliver development such as water and sanitation.
Dr Banda said the Patriotic Front had cheated the people of Wusakile that they would engage Mpelembe Drilling Company to sink boreholes and address the water problems in the area but ran away after elections without addressing the water challenges.
He stressed that the Patriotic Front should stop playing games with people’s lives and stop blackmailing electorates with promises of development because this was criminal.
Dr Banda has since appealed to the Patriotic Front to immediately fulfill their electoral promises to residents of Wusakile and other townships by providing quality drinking water.
