The Patriotic Front has resolved to adhere to the agreement made by all political parties to allow ZCID to facilitate and lead the Dialogue Process.
This follows the meeting in Siavonga were the PF, UPND, MMD, FDD and others did resolve that ZCID must facilitate and lead the dialogue process and that the Church must chair the process.
It must be noted that ZCID comprises all political parties. All political parties with representation in parliament have their Secretary Generals and their respective Deputies sitting as Board Members of the ZCID with two representatives from political parties outside Parliament.
All the political parties agreed in Siavonga that the dialogue process will focus on Constitutional Reforms, Judicial Reforms, Reform of the Public Order Act, Electoral Reforms, civility and tolerance in politics.
It must be noted that it’s only politicians, through parliament that have the Constitutional Mandate to pass legislation. No one and no institution other than parliament has the Constitutional Mandate to pass legislation to truly reform the Judiciary, the Electoral Commission, the Constitution and all other institutions of governance.
So no matter who facilitates or lead the dialogue, be it the church, the Commonwealth or any other entity, it will take nothing but political parties themselves to resolve political issues hence ZCID which is a body comprising political parties themselves is ideal to facilitate and lead the dialogue process.
The church and others can take their rightful role by chairing the process or help with technical support or counsel.
