PRESIDENT BANDA MOURNS LATE BANDA, CORNHILL
LUSAKA, October 11, 2010, – His Excellency, Mr. Rupiah Banda, President of the Republic of Zambia on Monday said he was saddened to learn of the death of two prominent Zambians, Dingiswayo Banda and George Cornhill, who both died on Monday after an illness.
The President said he learnt of the death of veteran politician and former Cabinet Minister Mr. Dingiswayo Banda and prominent Businessman George Cornhill with a deep sense of loss and sorrow. President Banda said he is devastated with the loss of his two close friends and associates.
On late Dingiswayo Banda, President said the late politician contributed greatly to the development of the country through various positions he held in Government. The late Banda served as Minister of Housing and Social Development, Minister of Transport and Works, Minister of Youth, Cooperatives and Social Development and Member of the Central Committee of UNIP.
“His death is not just a loss to the family, but also to the entire nation,” President Banda said in his letter of condolences to the bereaved family.
On late Cornhill, President Banda said the late businessman and farmer contributed to the development of agriculture in Zambia and the District of Monze, Southern Province, where he settled.
