Multitudes of Kabwe’s Kasanda market traders whose shops were closed by the Municipal council have now relocated to the District Commissioner’s office where they are conducting their business which involves salaula (second hand clothes) and make shift restaurants popularly known as Savage restaurants.

The traders whose tiff with the local authority today entered third day have vowed to continue trading from the DC’s office until their demand for the council not to increase the annual levies is met.

Last year in November the PF controlled council hiked the levies from K275 to K1,450 but the traders rejected them, sensing the pending Presidential election, the fees were halted but soon after winning the election, PF government revisited the matter and slapped the traders with a further penalty charge of K400 bringing the total demanded amount to K1,850.
