PRESIDENT BANDA MOURNS LUANGWA ACCIDENT VICTIMS
LUSAKA, 4th June, 2013—His Excellency Rupiah Bwezani Banda, the Fourth President of the Republic of Zambia, has expressed deep sorrow at the death of nine United Party for National Development (UPND) members who perished in a road traffic accident in Luangwa on Sunday night.
The former head of State has also commended all the political parties that have suspended their campaign for the June 20 Luangwa parliamentary by-election, stressing that although death does unify people, politicians should not be waiting for tragedy to unite them.
“As I mourn with those that have lost their beloved in this terrible accident, I wish to implore my fellow Zambians to learn to love one another and unite as members of one big family called Zambia. Why should we be waiting for the arrival of death before showing our humanity? It’s my prayer that we shall continue being united,” says the retired head of State.
President Banda has further advised UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and his party leadership against being discouraged by the loss of their members but forge ahead in continuing to contribute to Zambia’s political spectrum which needs the participation of every citizen.
And in a message to the 17 people who were injured in the accident, President Banda has wished them speedy recovery and advised them to seek God’s face as they recuperate.
