Dozens loses jobs as National Breweries shut Kabwe plant

National Breweries has shut down its Kabwe plant sending dozens of workers into unemployment.

Annabelle Degroot, the managing director informed the workers last week that ‘after a lot of research, analysis and consideration we have this week made such a decision, to place the National Breweries plant in Kabwe on temporary shutdown,

Degroot said ‘Staff will take leave as we monitor the situation in the next one to three months’.

He said the decision to shut down one of the very few employers in the ghost town was ‘made because of a sharp decline in demand for Chibuku in cartons, which has resulted in a decline in production at the plant to the point when we are operating at only a third of our capacity there’
