ECZ admits there are errors on voters cards

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has responded to the challenge to explain the errors on voters cards in opposition stronghold. ECZ says that holders of voters cards issued with wrong dates during the recent replacement exercise will be allowed to vote contrary to the suggestion that holders of such cards will not be allowed to vote.

ECZ Public Relations Manager Crispin Akufuna in explained in a statement that the wrong dates on voters’ card does not invalidate the cards.

Mr Akufuna claimed that the entry of the wrong date was a clerical error which occurred at only two centres at Mushindano School in Solwezi East Constituency and Community Development Centre in Solwezi Central.

He added that the mistake was corrected and it was established that only 430 replacement cards were issued with the wrong date.

Mr Akufuna said that instruction have since been issued to the District Electoral Officer on Solwezi to ensure that poll staff allow the holders of such cards to vote during the presidential election as the cards are valid.
