Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) Executive Director Bonnie Tembo has appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to enforce the electoral code of conduct among traditional rulers.
Speaking to hot fm, Tembo noted that it is shameful to see chiefs breaching the code of conduct by endorsing political candidates of their choice when they are supposed to be non-partisan.
He advised traditional rulers to stay away from politics and concentrate on maintaining peace and harmony in their chiefdoms.
Tembo charged that chiefs are lacking order in the way they are behaving, and urged ECZ to look into the matter as soon as possible.
He further advised traditional rulers who are engaging in politics to emulate Chief Gawa Undi of the Chewa people in Eastern Province who has maintained a neutral stance on politics.
