ECZ sets poll date for Malambo, Mulobezi and Petauke as PF attacks MMD members in Mkaika

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set Tuesday September 10, 2013 as the date for filing of nominations for Parliamentary by-elections in Petauke Central, Mulobezi and Malambo constituencies. ECZ Public Relations Manager Cris Akufuna has disclosed the development in Lusaka today.
Mr Akufuna said the setting of nominations date was done after the Lusaka High Court ruled yesterday that the trio that were blocked from filing nomination papers should be allowed.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia has also set September 26, 2013 as the date for voting in the three constituencies. this means that candidates and there political parties will only have two weeks for campaigns.
Meanwhile violence has broken out in Katete’s Mkaika constituency after PF cadres led by Defense Minister Geofrey Mwamba attacked villagers at Mpoto Village the Zambian Watchdog has been informed.
According to sources from the Electoral Commission of Zambia who did not want their names disclosed, GBM is accompanied by a group of PF thugs from Lusaka. It is this group that has so far assaulted six people from Mpoto Village.
MMD Deputy campaign Manager for Mkaika who is also Sinda Member of Parliament Levy Ngoma has also confirmed the development in an interview with the Zambian watchdog.
“Yes six of our supporters at Mpoto village have been severely assaulted by PF cadres right now I’m rushing there to see how we can restore order, it is like PF knows that Eastern province is a no go area for them” the youthful Sinda MP said.
