ECZ wants Zambians abroad to vote

The Electoral Commission of Zambia is working towards revising the Electoral Act to enable citizens abroad to vote during elections.

ECZ Legal Counsel ERIC KAMWI says the commission will opt for the amendment of certain clauses of the Electoral Act if the National Constitutional Conference does not wind up its business in time for the 2011 elections.

And ECZ Acting Director PRISCILLA ISAACS says the commission is concerned at the lack of public confidence in its operations.

Mrs ISAACS said this when ECZ officials led by Commissioner GRACE MULAPESI appeared before the Parliamentary committee on Legal affairs, governance and Human rights in LUSAKA yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ms MULAPESI dismissed assertions suggesting that intelligence officers are employed during elections.

The committee is chaired by Monze Member of Parliament JACK MWIIMBU.
