Embattled acting chief justice forced to recuse herself

Embattled Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda was this morning forced to recuse herself from being part of the full bench to deliver ruling on whether Vubwi Member of Parliament Dr. Eustacio Kazonga and former Zambezi East MP Charles Kakoma should re-contest their former seats.
This was after the defense team for Kazonga and Kakoma argued that Chibesakunda could not be part of the team because the Patriotic Front lawyers Bonaventure Mutale and Abraham Mwansa are also lawyers for Lombe Chibesakunda in a matter in which the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has asked the Acting Chief Justice to vacate office. The matter was relocated from open court to chambers were sources tell the Zambian Watchdog that the acting chief justice refused to recuse herself until after a protracted legal arguments forced her to reluctantly concede defeat. Later seven justices appeared again in the open court but again the defense raised issues. The development led to the adjournment of the matter to a later date. This is a big blow to President Sata who had last week launched campaigns.
