Even ZCTU confirms corruption in teacher recruitment

The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions has called for transparency in the deployment of teachers who have recently been recruited.

ZCTU Central province coordinator Emmerson Pukuma told the media in Kabwe that there were no guidelines in the recruitment exercise and that central province has seen more teachers being deployed contrary to the initial number that was agreed upon.

Confirming what was earlier reported by the Zambian Watchdog, he said that ZCTU is concerned with saddening reports that even students who are still in colleges have been recruited and has called for thorough investigations in the matter so as to restore sanity to the education sector.

“There were no guidelines in as far as teacher recruitment and selection process was concerned. It is also saddening that there are reports that the list contains some people who are still students in colleges and universities, so we call upon government to curb the corruption that has been involved in this exercise so that sanity can return to this ministry,” said Pukuma.
