Ex- Red Cross boss acquitted, says DEC too corrupt

MUSHITU-ON-ALBINOLusaka senior Magistrate Mwaka Mikalile has acquitted former Zambia Red Cross Society Secretary General Charles Mushitu on charges of theft involving K1.4 billion.

And Mr Mushitu says his acquittal sends a strong message to the Drug Enforcement Commission officers that corruption has no place in the country’s justice system.
Mr Mushitu in a statement issued to QFM News accuses some DEC officers of being corrupt urging government to move in and remove the rot such investigative wings.

He says his prosecution was a conspiracy between some DEC officers and Zambia Red Cross Society staff aimed at fixing him.

He said that even after the Zambia Red Cross Board had written to the DEC stating that there was no money stolen, a named DEC officer went ahead to search his house, seized his property and arrested him for theft of K1.4 billion and money laundering, the money he says Zambia Red Cross Society did not have in the first place.

Mr Mushitu says his arrest was merely an act aimed at embarrassing him and an attempt to destroy his illustrious career.

Mr Mushitu says he is in consultation with his lawyers and family seriously considering making all those who put in motion the machinery of false and malicious prosecution account for their evil actions in courts flaw.
