Paramount Chief Gawa Undi of the Chewa people last week refused to accept a gift of a Motor Vehicle from State House and instead bought the same make of the vehicle.

According to reports reaching the Zambian Watchdog, State House last week delivered a brand new Toyota Prado to the Paramount Chief through Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu but the Paramount Chief refused the gift and came to Lusaka and bought a new Toyota Prado using his own resources.

“They thought all chiefs in Eastern Province are like Mpezeni so they delivered a brand new Prado to Gawa to try to use him for the forthcoming by-election in Mkaika but the Gawa refused and told Edgar Lungu that he was going to Lusaka to buy the same vehicle and he has bought it” the source said.

The source said it was at this time that Gawa Undi ordered his Indunas never to allow any political attire at the forthcoming Kulamba Ceremony to be graced by ceremonial Vice President Guy Scot.

Eastern Province has two paramount chiefs; one is respected Gawa Undi of the Chewa people while the other is a rascal and scandalous Patriotic Front cadre Mpezeni of the Ngoni.

Given the low calibre, and corrupt nature of most traditional leaders in Zambia, the Gawa’s  spotless and exemplary leadership continues to give us hope for a better Zambia.

Gawa Undi’s headquarters  is based in Katete District where there will be a bye-election in Mkaika constituency in the next few days.
