The family of former Kabwe Mayor, Richard Yumbe has blocked him from being taken to hospital but have instead called in pastors from some local Pentecostal churches to pray for him.
Yumbe who was Mayor during the MMD era is reportedly critically ill but when friends went to visit him they were turned away, their pleas to have him taken to hospital were equally rejected as the family insisted on prayers.
“He is very sick such that he is not even talking, so we went there to plead that they take him to the hospital so that he gets medical attention but we were turned away as Pentecostal pastors were busy praying in a rather noisy manner. We take this as a human rights abuse because we don’t understand the motive of the family, it is like they just want him dead,” said a close friend.
Yumbe runs some businesses in Kabwe ranging from shops to transport and dealing in used cars and is credited for strong youth activism.
