Father Miha’s life history and funeral program

Friar Michael (popularly known as Miha) was born at Pobrezje (Slovenia) on 15th September 1946 of Franc Drevensek and Ana Kurez. He was baptized as an infant in Kidem Priptuju, Slovenia.

He joined the Friars Minor Conventual in the Province of St. Joseph of Cupertino, Slovenia in 1963.  On 2nd August 1964 he professed his temporary vows, continued his formation and made his solemn vows on 4th October 1971.  He was ordained priest on 2nd July 1972 at Priptuju.  He came as a missionary to Zambia on 29th January 1977 and studied the local language, Icibemba, at Ilondola Language Centre in Kasama after which he served in various places:

1977                                              St. Theresa’s Mission, Ibenga (orientation, language, pastoral)

Jan. 1978 to June 1978                 St. Anthony’s Mission as Assistant to Parish Priest.

1997 – 1998                                  St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Kansenshi

March 1997 to Oct. 2011              Director of Mission Press/AVS.

He served as Guardian of the communities at Franciscan Centre Friary, Ndola and St. Joseph’s Mission, Kalumbwa.

Fr. Miha was very committed to hard work. He was a father of the poor and assisted countless orphans to complete their education.  He was also a voice of the oppressed and champion of justice. He spoke out strongly and boldly on matters of good governance and freedom of the Press, especially through Icengelo and Challenge Magazines of which he was the Editor.
Fr. Miha had a passion for Art, especially music.  He selflessly promoted many people to excel in their life as musicians.  He was also instrumental in the recognition of the talents of many youths and people with disabilities on the Copperbelt, through the annual Mukuba Awards.  Many people fondly referred to him as Bambo (Father)!

Fr. Miha was rushed to Miramar Hospital in Ndola and met Sister Death on 29th October 2011 after suffering a Heart Attack.

May the Lord graciously look upon his dedicated service to the Republic of Zambia, the Local Church, and the Franciscan Family.
