FDD says Lungu’s order to arrest HH is abuse of authority

President Elgar Lungu’s instruction, directing the police to investigate and arrest Hakainde Hichilema is procedurally  improper and borders on abuse of authority, says FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza.

‘First of all the Zambia Police is an independent body that was established by an Act of Parliament and is supposed to conduct it’s business in an independent and professional manner without the interference of anyone Edgar Lungu inclusive,’ Mwanza explained.

‘Secondly, it is not the job of Edgar Lungu to do Police work. Those that have been charged with the responsibility of keeping State Secrets have all sworn an Oath of Secrecy which clearly outlines punitive measures which those who abrogate the Oath should suffer,’ Mwanza said.

He said t the onus is therefore on Government to punish erring officials and to establish why OP officers are leaking classified information.

‘This PF Government has for far too long abused the Judicial Process by using our Courts of Law to fix political opponents. How many times has HH been dragged to court by the Government on frivolous and vexatious charges that end up in Nolle Prosequi because there is no evidence against him?’ Mwanza asked.

‘As FDD we want to advise President Edgar Lungu to sober up and take it easy,’ Mwanza said.
