Zambia’s leading female referee Gladys Lengwe is optimistic of officiating at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Morocco in 2015.
Lengwe officiated at several FAZ premier league games for over five years and said officiating at next year‘s Africa Cup would be the greatest achievement of her entire refereeing career.
Lengwe was also among three female referees that CAF appointed recently to offiate at 2014/2015 Africa Cup qualifiesrs.
“My greatest desire is to officiate at next year‘s AFCON finals in Morrocco because it will be the greatest moment in my career as a referee,” said Lengwe.
She also officiated at the 2013 Barclays Cup finals between Red Arrows and Nchanga Rangers at Lusaka ‘s Nkoloma stadium last year.
She said that its every referee‘s dream to officiate at Africa‘s biggest soccer tournament which is the highest level any referee can attain in Africa.
“It is the dream of every referee to officiate at Africa‘s biggest soccer tournament which is at the highest level,” said Lengwe
And Zambia‘s CAF match Commissioner Allan Mumba said that Lengwe has broken the barrier which sidelined Zambian female referees from officiating in major championships in the past.
Mumba cited female Lengwe that she has made tremendous improvement with her refereeing skills over the years.
