Fire services union disappointed by PF

img_1319The Fire Services Union of Zambia is disappointed by failure by the PF government to improve infrastructure of fire stations leaving most fire authorities operating in garages and dilapidated structures.

And the union says it is saddened by the failure by government to construct the much talked about 3 fire stations in Lusaka’s Chelston Makeni and Chilenje to improve effectiveness of response to emergence owing to the growing population.

Union General secretary Clement Mulenga says it is disappointing that out of 103 districts in Zambia only 40 fire authorities are functional representing only 38 percent of National cover.

Mulenga says it disappointing that government has completely neglected the fire authorities and only talks about them when there is a fire on properties.

The union general secretary says the union is tired of empty promises to improve the welfare for officer who endanger their lives fighting fire without protective clothing.

He says the local authorities have with impunity defied calls to procure protective clothing, adding fire authorities also lack fire equipment’s such fire engines, protective clothing and other necessary tools hence putting fire fighters life in danger.

Recently, a fire fighter died whilst fighting an inferno that gutted ZANACO Chipata branch.
