Five hundred workers to lose jobs in Northwestern

Kalumbila mine in North-western province is in the process of laying off more than 500 workers, according to officials at the mine.

This follows the move by the provincial minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu and permanent secretary Augustine Seyuba to stop the company from constructing Chizola dam and delays by Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) to approve its resettlement action plan.

This means that workers at the dam construction and resettlement sites have to lose jobs.

Meanwhile patience is running out and aggression  is mounting among the local people who want to be resettled urgently and those who are about to lose jobs.
