Five water utilities propose tariff hikes

Five water utility companies intend to increase water tariffs for 2016 to 2018 and have since submitted their proposals to the National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO).

The five companies are Western Water and Sewerage, Eastern, Luapula, Lukanga and Chambeshi Water and Sewerage.

NWASCO Acting Director Peter Mutale said on Friday that the water regulator will scrutinise the proposals to remove any unjustified costs in the proposals.

Zambians are under continued financial pressure as almost all commodities and services have been increased.
