Flachback: I wont order the police to arrest anyone – Lungu

CHRISTINE CHISHA, KAPALA CHISUNKA – Lusaka
PRESIDENT Lungu says he will not use his powers to interfere with the operations of the police.
Speaking when he commissioned the Misisi and John Howard police posts in Chawama Constituency yesterday, President Lungu said he wants the police to operate in a professional manner and ensure that the interest of all Zambians is upheld.
“I will not abuse the law and send the police to arrest people and similarly I will not protect law-breakers. I do have power to order the police but I will not abuse those powers and will not do that,” he said.
Mr Lungu said no lawbreaker will be spared whether within the Patriotic Front (PF) party or outside.
The President who pledged to continue supporting the police service, said there is need for the community and the police to work together to combat crime.
“The police are doing their best despite working under difficult conditions but I would like to appeal to the police to be professional in their duties and respect human rights as they deal with different persons,” he said.Screen Shot 2015-03-03 at 12.24.04
