President John Evans Atta Mills on Friday, dispelled rumours that he was sick and about to die, and proclaimed that he would live to make sure the Better Ghana Agenda was achieved.
President Mills, sporting an Agbada, was looking hale and hearty, and wondered why some people always wanted him dead.
“It is quite clear, to some people, a living Atta Mills brings them a threat,” President Mills said, in an interview with Journalists, at the Osu Castle in Accra.
During the interview, President Mills explained why he retained Vice President John Dramani Mahama as his running mate for Election 2012. “Atta Mills will live and make sure the Better Ghana Agenda is achieved,” President Mills said.
President John Evans Atta Mills says persistent “wild rumours” about his state of health clearly shows that some persons do not want him alive.
The President restated that he is not sick or bedridden, as it is being rumoured in certain political circles.
He dispelled the rumours just before meeting a delegation of leaders of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana as the Castle on Friday August 5.
He said it was unfortunate some persons are peddling what he described as “wild rumours”.
This is not the first or second time that the President Mills has had cause to comment about his state of health.
It would be recalled that prior to the 2008 elections, there were similar rumours that President Mills, then a Presidential candidate, had died following a claim by an NDC MP, that the law Professor was too ill to contest the presidency.
President Mills laughed at the latest rumour at the Castle on Friday and said his detractors are threatened by his good health and strength.
“Most important of all, I cherish your promise to pray for us especially only a day after there was wild rumours that I am dead or I am on my death bed. I realise that there are people who have turned themselves into doctors, soothsayers, fortune tellers, or necromancers who probably do not think that when Mills is alive, he enhances to know the opportunity”.
“It is quite clear that there are some people who don’t want me alive. I think a living Atta Mills is a big threat to them. Unfortunately I have to disappointment them. Atta Mills will leave and make sure that the better Ghana agenda is achieved” he noted.
President Mills used the opportunity to explain his choice of Vice President Mahama as his running mate for the 2012 elections.
According to him, his choice of his Mr. John Dramani Mahama was based on the former Bole Bamboi MP’s ability and track record.
The President said this a day after he proposed to the National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress his choice of Mr. Mahama to partner him for the second time.
According to President Mills, delegates at the NDC’s recently held presidential primary in Sunyani gave him an overwhelming endorsement based on his government’s performance since it assumed office, and the Vice President was an integral part of the team that had delivered on its promise.
