Former coach Phiri confident Chipolopolo will do well at AFCON

Former Chipolopolo trainer Patrick Phiri says that the Chipolopolo should aim high and go beyond 2013 AFCON record in Equatorial Guinea next month.

The 2015 AFCON draws were conducted last week in Malabo and Zambia has been placed in Group B.

Zambia,”2012 Champions” are paired with Congo DR ( 2 time winners), Tunisia(2004 Champions) and Cape Verde who were in the same group of qualifiers with Zambia.

Phiri is optimistic that Janza led squad has determination to go beyond group stage and win the AFCON.

It’s their time now to think big and go beyond the group stage at next month’s World Cup final,” said Phiri.

Phiri was speaking after Zambia were drawn in a what he termed as group of death in port B alongside DR Congo, Tunisia and former Group mates Cape Verde.

He said that Honor Janza led side has shown tremendous improvement which causing serious damage to any team at the forth coming event.

“Zambia managed to beat Cape Verde in the second leg match of qualifiers two weeks ago which can heightened their chances of winning 2015 edition.

He said Playing against DR Congo and Cape Verde is Chipolopolo players ‘s wish and now have an opportunity to excel in West Africa next year,” said Phiri.

He said that it was encouraging to note that the same team that won the 2012 AFCON title can achieved another much bigger feat next month.

Phiri observed that Zambian soccer teams have had an impressive record from 1974 from when the team competed in its first tournament hosted by Egypt in the same year.
