Former Kabwe MP ‘Pabs’ Musonda arrested for forgery

Former MP for Kabwe central constituency Patrick Bulasho Musonda popularly known by his business name of Pabs has been arrested by police for uttering invalid documents which enabled his company to win a road construction contract from the government contrary to cap 87 section 353 of the laws of Zambia.

Pabs is alleged to have used photocopies of certificates and curriculum vitae for Emmanuel Chilombo, an engineer and now council secretary for Sikongo district council in Western province to win the tender for the construction of the Kayosha – Namununga – Mungule road in central province without the consent of Chilombo whom he purpoted to be his projects manager.

Zambia police Central province anti-frauds section officers, apprehended Pabs on Thursday and detained him at Chowa police but was later released on police bond and will appear in court soon. Police sources told the Zambian Watchdog that the practice of faking professionals’ documents was widespread and had led to shoddy contractors with political connections being awarded contracts which they failed to execute and that many more companies were being investigated.

Pabs was first elected MP for Kabwe central in 2001 under General Miyanda’s Heritage party but resigned barely a year in parliament to recontest on MMD and won the seat, of late he has together with convicted former Bwacha MP Reverend Gladys Nyirongo been courting the PF. He later became deputy minister under Mwanawasa, was MMD national youth chairman and during the last MMD convention had sought to stand for party vice presidency but the position was frozen.
