Over 1000 former Zambia China Mulungushi Textiles (ZCMT) workers who lost their jobs but have not been paid their terminal benefits in full are today expected to gather at the provincial Boma conference hall in Kabwe to plan for a meeting with President Michael Sata, who has been dodging them after promising to address their plight during the campaigns.
Group coordinator Alex Mutale Nsofwa told the media that their suffering has become unbearable as they have been evicted from the rented houses and their children expelled from schools for failure to pay school fees.
He said today’s meeting is meant to mobilize resources to travel to State house as their patience has now run out. The former workers shall contribute K10 each for transport and logistics.
During the run up to the 2011 elections Sata promised to revamp the textile industry and also said all the former workers will be paid their dues and start the contracts afresh but the leader has never even been to Kabwe and has constantly been avoiding the subject.
