Former Railway Systems bosses try to leave country, arrested

Former Railway Systems of Zambia (RSZ) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Benjamin Even and  former General Manager Pelossor Yair have been arrested as they tried to leave the country.

Benjamin Even and Yair tried to leave  the country at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport but were stopped and detained by the Zambia Immigration officials.

The PF regime early this week revoked the concession agreement of Zambia Railways which Even and Yair were running as Rail Way System of Zambia.

The two tried to leave  on a flight to Johannesburg Thursday morning.

Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Maxwell Nkole disclosed in a statement that upon being intercepted the duo were found with RSZ employment permits.

“Permits which have since been withdrawn and their passports temporarily withheld.  This was done in the presence of their Lawyers, in order that they can assist in the smooth transfer of management at the company.” He said

Nkole said this action was necessary to facilitate the audit of assets by the Government following the termination of the concession agreement.

He said that it is important that a “full audit of all assets is thoroughly undertaken with the assistance of the former management.”
