Former vice president George Kunda dies at UTH

Immediate past vice president of Zambia George Kunda has died.

Kunda who has been admitted to the University Teaching Hospital for the past three weeks died Monday afternoon.

Unlike most politicians both in government and a few select in opposition, Kunda was not evacuated to better medical services outside the country.

George Kunda (born February 26, 1956 in Luanshya) was a Zambian lawyer and politician. He was the Vice-President of Zambia, in which capacity he served between 2008 and 2011. He served under President Rupiah Banda until their party’s loss to Michael Sata‘s party.

The son of a miner, Kunda worked as a lawyer before entering politics. He did not compete in the 2001 parliamentary election, but gained one of the eight appointed seats in Parliament. President Levy Mwanawasaappointed him Minister of Justice and Attorney General in 2002.
