GBM’s rejoining of PF

GBM’s rejoining of PF

 My Views.

Tuesday, April 23rd and Zambians were treated a press briefing by one Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba AKA GBM in which he categorically stated the challenges he faced in UPND and subsequently announced his resignation.from the party. Some of the challenges he mentioned were; Under-utilization, Personal Isolation, Disrespect and Personal differences with party president, Hakainde Hichilema.

Well let me explain the above according to GBM..
1. Under-utilization;
GBM claimed he had become increasingly frustrated at being a ceremonial Vice President, one who could not cement his authority, make decisions and campaign or run party programs to fullness as he should have, an issue he made mention to Hakainde Hichilema several times.

2. Personal Isolation;
GBM claims he felt a sense of Isolation from the senior leadership of UPND – meetings called and decisions being made without his knowledge as a Vice President citing the recent suspension and dissolution of the Northern Province Party structures in his absence as one of them.

3. Disrespect;
GBM felt demeaned or disrespected by junior party members, SG Katuka and Mucheleka being a few of those mentioned. Comments were made by these in the media accusing and denouncing him, something he claimed wouldn’t have been possible without the blessing of Hakainde Hichilema.

4. Differences with Party president Hakainde Hichilema;
While this was mentioned but not elaborated and the cause(s) of the differences cited, it becomes apparent its the main reason why GBM opted to be an absentee at most meetings, campaign rallies and party functions. Of the positives said was his request for the involvement of the party parliamentarians to resolve their differences and reconcile them, something they did but sadly didn’t yield positive results as the two continued not seeing eye to eye.

All these and he opted to resign and rejoin the Patriotic Front, a party he left in 2016 and rubbished just two weeks ago, categorically calling them a sinking party of thieves that he wouldn’t rejoin. How he has quickly forgotten and rejoined the thieves remains a shock.

I share my views on the press briefing and his resignation.

Firstly, it must be agreed that the above reasons given by GBM are genuine and that anyone else placed in his position would have resigned. My problem is on his rejoining PF just two weeks after categorically telling the whole world that they were thieves and had failed to govern – how he would turn around and rejoin them is shocking, showing the worst lack of principles ever seen.

Secondly, it is shocking that he found working with Hakainde Hichilema very hard as it should have been known from the start that their alliance was all out of convenience and not principle. He should have also learnt from how Canicius Banda, Richard Kapita, Sakwiba Sikota Patrick Chisanga, Bob Sichiinga, Edith Nawakwi, Micheal Sata and the PF all failed to work with him that being a negative attrubute of him and should not joined him from the onset.

Thirdly, while GBM laid all blame on HH and the UPND for the fallout, he forgot how difficult he is to work with, having joined MMD, PF, UPND and emotionally walked out on all these parties.

Fourth, while both sides are pretending to be happy with the outcome of the whole issue, it should be agreed that both groups have lost out…. UPND losing presence, numbers and an all inclusive image they had gained out of GBM’s presence with GBM losing the last bit of political respect left of him and likely never ever going to regain trust in the Zambian political arena.

All in all, Zambian politics lack maturity & principles. Stomachs count more than service & respect.
