Geological department monitors tremors

The Zambia Geological Survey department says it is monitoring earth tremors that have hit  the Northern province.

Director Kennedy Liyungu says the department has already dispatched officers to the area to monitor the tremors.

Mr. Liyungu says although the tremors are strong, the people in the two districts should not panic.

He says the tremors are following the pattern of earthquakes along the great rift valley, part of which extends into Zambia.

Mr. Liyungu says the department’s stations in LUSAKA and PETAUKE are already on full alert to detect any major earth movements.

Three people died in Malawi while 300 hundred were injured after an earthquake on Sunday.
