Dear watchdog (and whom it may concern), I’m responding to your picture of the day of the 5th of this month displaying my father(Honourable Given Lubinda- minister of agriculture) in Moscow visiting me and basically insinuating that it was wrong for him to spend HIS MONEY, That he spends sleepless nights working for to take the initiative any parent would to pay me a PRIVATE visit, as his daughter. Saying that others are starving.
First of all, he is not responsible for the children on scholarship. That’s the responsibility of the ministry of education(ans their guardians). He is only responsible for me and my siblings. And he came as a parent and not a government official so I find it insulting that you invaded our privacy as a family. Secondly, you portrayed a picture that i do not deserve the scholarship that I am on, sponsored by the RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT. Please understand the meaning of the word “scholarship”. According to the oxford dictionary(the world’s most popular and accurate dictionary), the word “scholarship” means “A grant or payment made to support a student’s education, awarded on the basis of academic or other achievement” Do you see the word “poverty” in that? It is awarded on the basis of ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT which you, and many other Zambians don’t seem to understand that I worked hard to achieve. I graduated my high school with STRAIGHT DISTINCTIONS and therefore, the bursaries committee saw the need to fairly grant me the scholarship. Kindly take a look at my statement of results, just for your viewing pleasure. Thirdly, to the people that claim I attained the scholarship with the help of my father, kindly be informed that he was willing to pay for my studies in China, just as he did for my sisters who studied in Australia and Malaysia without a problem. Yes, he can afford it, but it was MY decision to apply for a scholarship behind his back. If you must know, he had no idea about it until it was already granted to me. If you must know the reasons I applied for a scholarship I will gladly tell you.
1. He has sponsored so many people, relatives and nonrelatives, therefore, I, as a daughter, decided to pay him back for building other people’s lives by getting a higher education without him having to pay. 2. I saw an opportunity and grabbed it, deservingly 3. He is still sponsoring my siblings and others which should mean I had to lighten his load. In case you didn’t know, he was not for the idea until he saw how much I wanted it. I truly know and believe that I did not take anybody’s school place. So please leave my father out of my academic business. Learn to do your research before you fabricate false information. Concerning our allowances. My fellow students, please don’t accuse the bursaries committee of starving us for 3 months. According to our contracts, we are entitled to $1000 every 4 months. We were last paid in July and we are in November. Be responsible with your money!!! Of course they delay but don’t exaggerate everything especially seeing the current situation of our country. Anyway, because we all haven’t been paid and people are starving should not be my problem or my father’s problem. Please don’t involve is in things that don’t concern us. He is a responsible father who ALWAYS provides for ME, his daughter. I’m sure many other parents do the same for their children so I don’t see anything wrong with him ensuring that I am safe because others are starving. Besides, the bursaries committee informed us that they would sometimes delay or not be able to provide us with funds at times and our guardians signed the contract agreeing that they would fill in where the government couldn’t. We all agreed to that so pointing fingers won’t solve anything. I have attached a photo of my statement of results just so you can see the real reason I was selected. Besides, Zambian watchdog, kindly hire a new auditor because Russia is a country, and not a city as you stated in your post. My advice to you is that you provide the country with concrete and helpful information and not petty and private issues which don’t concern the country at large. As a public media page, I suppose you are supposed to be a lot more responsible than that and not do “Chinese whisper” because that’s not professional.
Sincerely, Namatama Lubinda.
