The contractor contracted to build Kalanga Secondary school in Mansa’s Bahati constituency has abandoned the scene after government indicated that there is no money to complete the project.
Sources from Luapula province administration unit who withheld the contractor’s name and amount involved have told the Zambian Watchdog that works have been stalled the past four months after government failed to pay the contractor. The school was supposed to be completed this year.
The project is at foundation stage and a visit by area MP Harry Kalaba who is also Lands minister confirmed the absence of the contractor. However Kalaba in his usual statement to appease the electorate maintained that money would be sourced and the project completed.
In addition to Kalanga secondary school, government has also been unable to complete the hostels and other infrastructure projects at Nkrumah and Mulungushi universities which led to violent student protests and gutting of the students’ centre last year in Kabwe. The projects were started by the MMD but have stalled under President Michael Sata’s PF.
