Government allocates K244.6 billion for 2011 polls

Government has proposed 20.5 trillion Kwacha budget for 2011.

And Finance minister Situmbeko Musokotwane has allocated K244.6 billion for the genereal elections next year.

Musokotwane presented the 2011 budget Thursday afternoon and called it “A people’s budget, from a people’s government.”

According to the figures presented by the Finance minister, donors have reduced their contributions national budget for 2011 by half. Donors have pledged 7.7 per cent.  In 2010 they offered 14.5 per cent.
Situmbeko Musokotwane said government expects to raise about 16 billion Kwacha in revenue.

Musokotwane also proposed to a reduce government administration expenditure from 32 percent in 2010 to 28 percent for 2011.

The Finance Minister told Parliament that this is to realign expenditure away from administration towards investment in the economic and social service delivery.

The health’s sector share of the budget is nine percent, social protection three percent and three percent for housing.
