Government confirms will regulate media during state of emergency

Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has confirmed the Zambian Watchdog earlier revelations that the PF wants to shut down the Mast Newspapers.

Mr.Kanganja told a media briefing at Police headquarters in Lusaka today that the Police will prohibit some publications including some social media platforms.

Mr. Kanganja also announced that Curfews will also be in place.

” We will restrict and regulate some publications and social media and also restrict some movements of people especially in the darker hours,” he said. Though he did not specifically name the Mast, Zambian Watchdog was informed last week by a State House source that Edgar Lungu wants the paper owned by wife to Fred Mmembe closed. Commercial Banks have also been directed to monitor bank withdrawals and report to the Central Bank twice a week.
