Government orders banning of ‘church’

Lusaka Province Minister Charles Shawa has called for an immediate ban of the Goshali Church in Chongwe District, Lusaka Province saying the church is illegal.

The Minister made the call in Chongwe yesterday during a meeting held with traditional leaders and other stakeholders to discuss the issue surrounding the Goshali.

Mr. Shawa said the church is illegal because it is not registered with the Registrar of Societies.

He accused the church in question of working against Government by jeopardising peace in the district and abrogating laws of the country.

Mr. Shawa also said the church has been denying children of its members the right to education and good health by keeping them in confinement.

The Minister explained that members of the Goshali are forbidden to use conventional medicine and to participate in any development programmes.

He further stated that the Goshali church does not respect traditional leaders in the district and terrorise villagers living within their vicinity.

Meanwhile, the Minister has directed Chongwe District Commissioner Japhen Mwakalombe to ensure that Goshali members being kept at Chongwe Police station are relocated to Mazabuka.

And Chieftainess Nkhomeshya Mukamambo the second praised the media for informing the public on what is happening in the District.

On 6th January, villagers  living near the Goshali home burnt to ashes  the entire Goshali compound after members of the church forced them to accept the faith and start adhering to the 31 Goshali commandments.
