Govt suspends elected Siavonga council for resisting moving Chirundu to Lusaka

Nkandu Luo

Following resistance from chiefs and local people to move Chirundu from Southern province and attach it to Lusaka, government has suspended the elected Siavonga district council with immediate effect.

The Siavonga councillors are part of the resistance.

The council has been replaced by one Alex Bwalya as the local Government administrator to discharge all the functions of the council.

Chirundu has been part of Siavonga district  time immemorial and the demarcation of the border district will have to be done from there.

Minister of Local government Nkandu Luo says the move has been taken to allow investigations into alleged corrupt practices and illegal allocation of plots.
