Grade 8 pupil in court for Burglary and Theft

A Grade Eight pupil of Shungu Basic School in Livingstone this morning appeared in the magistrate court for plea in a theft and burglary case involving property worth K 435, 000.

David Chishimba 19, of house number C32 Malota Compound appeared before Principal Resident Magistrate Davis Mumba and pleaded guilty to Burglary and Theft contrary to section 301(a) and 272 chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

And Magistrate Mumba dismissed claims by Chishimba that he was 17 years old saying the claims lacked merit in the absence of official documentation and testimony from his parents.

Earlier this month, Chishimba illegally gained entry to Ester Mubamba’s house by breaking a window and stole a Nokia Cellular phone, a bible and a hand bag all valued at K435, 000.

He told the court he intended to sell the property so that he could buy shoes for himself but he was arrested on December 7 and the stolen property was repossessed by law enforcement agencies.

Chishimba is currently remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned to Monday December 14, for facts.
