Grand Coalition joins UNPD peaceful march past

The Grand Coalition, a consortium of church mother bodies, trade unions, political parties, NGOs, student unions, urges all well meaning Zambians to join the peaceful march past today friday, 29th May 2015 demanding for the enactment of the new constitution organised by the UPND.

The Grand Coalition has opposed the Patriotic Front (PF)’s phased enactment of a new constitution. The coalition also demands that the government facilitates for a national referendum and enactment before the 2016 general elections.

The march past starts at 10 hours from the Main post office and proceed to the Freedom Statue where various leaders including among other Fr. Chiti, Hakainde Hichilema, Charles Milupi, Susan Matale, will address the procession. Other speakers will include Bishop John Mambo, Sara Longwe, George Chisanga and the ZCTU president.
The police have granted the UPND a permit for the peaceful march past.
However reports reaching the Watchdog are that riot police have already gathered at the the Post Office. We are yet to establish if the police are there to secure the marchers or to stop the peaceful demonstration.
