Grieved Zambians continue contributing to bringing body of neglected student abroad

A cross-section of grieved Zambians both home and abroad have continued contributing Money to bring the remains of  Sikwebela Malitela, a Zambian student who died in Czech in unclear circumstances.

The  Zambian government refused to help the family saying it is not the responsibly of the PF government to repatriate remains of Zambians who die abroad if they were not on government mission.

After the PF agovernment announced its decsion through foreign affairs minister GIven Lubinda to neglect a son of the Zambian soil, his fellow ordinary citizens mobilised themselves to help.

So far Zambians within the country and abroad have continued assisting the family with financial resources to repatriate the relative’s remains from that country to Mongu, his proposed final resting.

An announcement posted by the Association of Zambians in Atlanta (USA) said they will publish the raised amount so far.

Upon speaking to the father to the deceased (Sikwibela Malitela) in the Czech Republic, he was given four options by the Czech Government.

1. Pay equivalent K60 million to have the body embalmed and sent to Zambia,

2. To have the body cremated in Czech and have the ashes sent to Zambia,

3.To pay for his burial in the Czech Republic and pay a yearly fee for the grave,

4.To surrender the body of the son to the Czech Government for a paupers burial.

The organisers have so far requested organisations, Christians and any sympathetic individuals to do everything to let the family bury their, son who was murdered in unclear circumstances, in a dignified Zambian tradition.

So far, the PF government, which has allocated K1.5 billion towards the first lady’s loitering activities and K1.4 billion towards Sata’s retirement mansion, has refused to commit government money to assist the family in bringing the remains of the student claiming he was there on his own accord.

Foreign Affairs Minister Given Lubinda said Government would not take responsibility of bring the remains back home.

Sikwebela Malitela a Zambian resident in the Czech Republic was found dead and his body floating in a river.

A statement from the Friends of UPND says “as part of our civic responsibility, we would like to ask those that are able to contribute to this honourable cause to do so.
