Mr Sakala stated that the guard of Kasanda village in chief Mukumbi shot dead a 42-year-old suspected criminal, identified as Shadrick Katota, using a home-made gun in the early hours of yesterday.
He said Katota sustained bullet wounds in the stomach, adding that he was in a group of six suspected criminals believed to have been Solwezi residents and that two of his accomplices, John Chomba of Kandemba compound and William Chanda of Kazomba compound both aged 35, are in police custody while the other three are on the run.
He said police have also lunched manhunt for the three known suspected criminals who escaped.
Mr Sakala has, therefore, appealed to Solwezi residents to report any suspicious looking persons with gun wounds to the police.
He said the body of Katota was identified by his wife and it is laying in Solwezi General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
