Petauke Headmen reject MP Dora Siliya’ second term bid

One Hundred and six headmen in senior chief Kalindawalo’s chiefdom in Petauke have rejected Dora Siliya move to solicit for support in the area ahead of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
According to sources within the ruling MMD in Petauke central constituency, the headmen gathered and resolved not to support Siliya for her second term in office as area Member of Parliament. Siliya is the spokesperson for the ruling party MMD and is also Zambia’s education minister.
The traditional leadership expressed displeasure among other things the failure by Siliya to help address the continued wrangles over the Kalindawalo chiefdom.
The source revealed that the non commitment by Siliya who is also education minister and other senior government officials to help address the wrangles in the area has led to the decline in President Rupiah Banda’s support and that of Siliya.
“These people met and made the resolutions when Dora went to donate 80 million Kwacha for the construction of a rural health centre in her constituency and she was stunned when all the 106 headmen rejected the money and demanded something else which she did not expect, they are saying simwana ula, aliye ulemu elekakale kuwela kuno so apa awela
kuno kuti timuvotele baione lini chino chaka,” the source said.
The source said the traditional leadership demanded from Siliya to know why she had decided to visit them now when the country was heading towards elections.
“They told her that if she was in the area with her 80 million kwacha to solicit for votes then she must go back and they will only accept that 80 million kwacha after government reverses the decision by the court to dethrone Miko Nsanga as senior chief Kalindawalo,” the source
said.
The source said the situation as it stands now there is nothing good for the ruling MMD and the opposition has gained ground in Petauke central, adding that if the problem is not resolved with the head of state Siliya was in a fix.
The source revealed that Siliya has since promised the headmen to deliver the massage to President Banda.
And when contacted for a comment MMD Eastern province Chairperson Kennedy Zulu declined to comment on the matter, instead he was quick to ask the Watchdog questions.
“Who told you about that, why can’t you leave as alone to sort ourselves? You are now done with the PF and UPND now you want to attack the MMD leadership, call Siliya and find out yourself than asking me such stupid questions,” said before he hang up.
