Z ambia’s outgoing President and Africa’s fast developing tyrant Edgar Lungu has unleashed a campaign of terror in which opposition member especially from the United Party for National Development are being brutalised, maimed and in some instances killed.
Lungu, the ruling party candidate who assumed the leadership of the ruling party by violently beating away all opponents is now using the same strategy to retain power ahead of the August 11 elections.
Tuesday evening working under instructions from the tyrant Edgar Lungu the Zambia Revenue Authority closed down the country’s only private Newspaper The Post which provided coverage to the opposition. The public media: ZNBC , Times of Zambia, Zambia Daily Mail are exclusive mouthpieces of the despotic Patriotic Front party and it’s tyrant.
When opposition attempt to campaign, state sponsored thugs are unleashed on them and brutalised.
“We have never witnessed this kind of lawlessness in Zambia since independence. If you are an opposition supporter you are not Zambian under the rule of Edgar, ” says a political activist Dante Saunders.
Saunders cited the recent attack at the premises of the UPND candidate Lady Diana school.
“Imagine the level of impunity where PF cadres go to private property destroy everything in their and no arrests are made. They destroy property beat up innocent school children and they are left scout free, ” this is unheard of.
“Just same late afternoon Tuesday the same PF cadres destroyed campaign materials at Intercity of a candidate. So how will the opposition campaign? Do you expect a free and fair election under such an environment? ” wondered Saunders.
Mr. Saunders has appealed to the international community to take particular interest in the happenings in Zambia.
“At the rate things are going these criminals in the PF will start targeting individuals who don’t support them and go attack them in their homes. And that’s precisely how civil unrest starts. We know Edgar desperately wants to retain power but that shouldn’t be at the expense of Zambia’s peace, ” he said.
