HH appears in Luanshya magistrate court for different offence

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema this morning appeared in the Luanshya Magistrate Court in a case where he and his vice Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba are charged with unlawful assembly.

Hichilema, who was yesterday taken back to Mukobeko Maximum Security Prison in Kabwe from Lusaka Central correctional facility, arrived at the magistrates’ court at 11:10 hours amid tight security.

Immediately, the matter was called before magistrate John Mbuzi.

The state applied that the matter be adjourned because the lead state advocate was in Lusaka attending to a Supreme Court matter.

Hichilema’ s lawyer Tom Shamakamba asked the court to stand down the matter for 20 minutes so that the defence could talk to their client.

We spoke to the prison authorities that we want to speak to our client and we apply that the matter can stand down for 20 minutes so that we get some instructions from our client and we shall explain why the other accused, GBM, is not before court,
said Shamakamba.

Magistrate Mbuzi then stood down the matter for 30 minutes.
Hichilema has been incarcerated for over three months with five others on alleged treason charges.
